Peppercorn Community Services - building social impact measurement capability across a whole organisation

Emergency service workers looking at a flooded bridge in a flooded region of NSW in 2022.

In the flood-prone Hawkesbury-Nepean region in NSW, Peppercorn Community Services was determined to make a significant impact. This organisation, committed to disaster relief and community support, had a mission to uplift the lives of those affected by recurring floods. However, they faced challenges in measuring, managing, and communicating their social impact outcomes.

The service offering:

Capability Training

Approach

Our comprehensive Social Impact Outcomes Training program was customized to address the unique challenges faced by Peppercorn and was designed to provide the entire organization, from frontline workers to managers and board members, with tailored Social Impact Outcomes Training, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance their flood relief efforts.

Outcomes

  • We began with meaningful conversations about what social impact and outcomes measures are. We led several small group training sessions with the services’ transport workers, administrative staff, case workers and managers. We also led a formal training session with the Board.

  • Through these workshops and one-on-one sessions, we started a conversation about impact - and provided frontline workers, managers, and board members with skills and tools to track, monitor, and assess the effectiveness of their hard work more accurately

  • Our training program extended beyond theory, offering practical skills development for everyone within the organization. Frontline workers, managers, and board members gained a better understanding in outcome-based program design and impact measurement.

A Lasting Impact

The impact of our Social Impact Outcomes Training extended far beyond our time with Peppercorn as the organisation now has an increased understanding and tools required to accurately measure its impact. This data-driven approach not only helps in securing additional funding but also in continuously improving their programs and services, contributing to strengthened stakeholder relationship and community resilience.

We worked with the Social Impact Hub to provide guidance and training.
